A Day In Galveston

A Day In Galveston
Originally uploaded by killy
After throwing himself headlong into the hefty waves on Galveston Island, Adolfo comes in for a breather. He must have been out there a good two hours in total. We would force him inland for a good re-slathering of sunblock and to switch parents every fifteen minutes or so.

He would head back to the water in full gallop with his green floating tube hiked up around his waist with one of us trotting after him. Once in the water he would throw himself into the foam of the crashing waves and laugh. Then he would stand up and yell at the ocean "Ha! You missed me!" and then as another wave came crashing towards him he would throw himself into it. It was fun to watch him play with the ocean but i was never far away from him. It was like having him play with a very dangerous friendly dog - it wouldn't bite him as long as i was there.

And so at first i was nearly on top of him, holding his hand and helping him to keep his footing sure, but the longer he was in there the more confident he became and he would get away from me and run out deeper into the ocean.

"Don't go too far! The waves are big out there!" I would shout after him as i waded deeper into the gulf after him. He didn't even turn around. And as each wave crashed over him he became more and more cocky, laughing at the waves and then ....

the ocean filled his mouth with itself and he stood straight up spit it out and vomitted all over his tube. Almost immediately another wave washed it all away and i stared at him wondering what he was going to do. He was still for a moment and i motioned towards him to offer him my arms and he suddenly jerked around threw himself into the next wave...

and i let him. From then on, i followed about two feet behind him and he hardly even noticed that i was there until a larger wave would throw him into my arms. I wouldn't hold him, i would simply drop him back down into his tube and he would continue laughing and throwing himself into oblivion.

One thing i failed to mention earlier was something that he said to me, while i was trying to keep him from going out too far. I thought it was kinda zen. After a particularly large wave had crashed over him, i barked to him not to go any further out and reminded him that the waves got bigger out there and her turned to me in mid stride and said, "If you don't want to lose me, then follow me."

I laughed and pulled his intertube back towards land. He would have been angry had it not been for yet another wave crashing over him.

UPDATE ON RELOCATION

Hello all,

Here's the deal.

As I mentioned before, Laura got accepted to Purdue University in Indiana. Full scholarship and such.
She was also accepted to Portland State University here in...........Portland. So a big piece of the puzzle was my job. How could we move and still maintain our income if my job was gone.
With this in mind I have been hustling on the freelance front and have been working some large jobs. At the same time working up a proposal for Nike to let me work remotely from Indiana. I pitched it as an in depth look at the baseball consumer, sport, and market enviroment of middle America. Made the presentation last week Thursday........here is the clincher........I told them I needed to know by Monday. I was sure I had sunk the ship by having such a short turn around time.

The end of day monday came........it was 4:55 I had heard nothing. I went to the office of my Bosses boss but he was not there. I waited around.....5:10 still no one. I figured that was the way it went around here. It is easy to get lost in the shuffle. I was heading back up the stairs when I heard someone come in the bottom floor door. Feet on the steps....Looked over the railing and sure enough here comes the boss man himself. He sees me and his face looks tired. My heart sank.

He asks me as he exhales if I have a minute. Another bad sign.

I step in his office and he starts to tell me how he has gone over it with his boss and after thinking about it and looking at all that it entails

They are willing to try it out!

So all in all I get to keep my job and live in Indiana for the next three years while Laura gets her Masters.

Pretty fuckin sweet deal.

N'yah N'yah

We get to go to Australia for the Summer!
Not unlike Olivia Newton John's Character, Sandy, said her family was going to do after the Summer in the Movie "Grease". Except her sitiuation changed, she ended up staying and then she spent the majority of the movie acting like a total prude...I mean really, sleep around already! It's America in the Fifties, it's not like there's anything better to do.
So yeah...I guess it's nothing like that.
Australia WOOHOO!
Frank leaves tomorrow. I'm on a bus for the land that gave us Men at work, Kylie Minogue, and the Aussie Mega 3-minute Miracle on May 26th.
Would love to see y'all before I hop on the greyhound. It's a really long drive. I had no idea.

Lah pah-OH-la

She popped a sweet tooth - bottom gum, front, left - and just like her daddy, she gags at veggies and vomits up any meat - she is only content with a cookie in her mouth or while inhaling fruit
but she does like beans...

Saw Spider Man 3

Having Done Spring Cleaning and Finding a Treasure

(One of three photos i took of prints spread out across my living room floor)

I found soooooo many pictures. Hey todd, remember that one i took of you with your xrays in the window behind you? Found that one. Colin, remember that one i took of you in your dorm room with a lamp right on your face? Found that one. Taggart, I found a bunch of YOUR prints in my boxes too.

It was pretty astounding to be able to see what i had done so many years ago - a real eye opener.

Laura gets accepted to Purdue

Howdy all,

Quick update.

Laura got accepted to Purdue's MFA program-----full ride with a stipend for living expenses.

I think we are going to be relocating, at the later part of the summer, to West Lafayette, IN.

It seem like an opportunity to big to pass up.

I am going to try to keep my job and work remotely, everyone keep their fingers crossed on that front.

More info to come.
