Sloth in the trash can

I went to a birthday party with Chella. It was at the local zoo in Lafayette IN.
There was going to be some meet and greet with the animals so I was excited.
They showed us a barn owl and a chinchilla and an umbrella bird. But what took the cake (not literally) was when they went over to a large gray industrial trash can in the corner, wheeled it out into the center of the room and opened it. Across the inside lid were two metal bars and attached to those metal bars were four hairy arms. At this point everything was getting completely surreal. They kept raising the lid and, sure enough, they pulled out a sloth about as long as the can was deep.

Well they pulled him out and put him on a tree/perch and did their talk. After that they got him to grab back onto the lid and lowered him into the can. The kids didn't seem too puzzled but I was almost terrified. It reminded me a bit too much of Pulp Fictions gimp scene, without all the associated action.

Small town zoos.
Weird.
